Covering God, Elections and Gays

The Central Ohio chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists will support the Religion Newswriters Association’s workshop, “Covering God, Elections and Gays,” and other topics the RNA has set for June 16 and 17.

The Friday and Saturday sessions will take place in conjunction with the Episcopal Church’s June 13-21 conference in Columbus. The issue of openly gay clergy looms large at this conference of the nation’s fourth largest protestant church, with the possibility the differences could lead to a schism in the church.

Leaders of the church are expected to discuss this and other key issues during a roundtable session on Saturday morning.

Other expected topics include “Holy and Hip: Covering Faith and Popular Culture;” and “God and Politics in the Mid-term Elections.”

The conference will take place at the Crowne Plaza hotel at 33 E. Nationwide Blvd. The tentative schedule calls for the Friday sessions to take place from 9 a.m. to noon after a complimentary continental breakfast. The afternoon session take place from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. with an evening session from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30. The Saturday morning sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at noon.
