Minority Scholarship Challenge
The Columbus Association of Black Journalists has raised $8,500 for a minority scholarship, but needs $10,000 so the scholarship can be administered by the Columbus Foundation and an annual award given.
At the annual Founders Day Banquet last night, the Central Ohio SPJ Board formally announced an SPJ Chapter Presidents’ Challenge to raise the additional $1,500 as quickly as possible so a deserving student can benefit from the scholarship.
Former president and current board member Paul E. Kostyu, the statehouse bureau chief for GateHouse Media, initiated the challenge with a $100 donation. By the end of the evening, $720 had been raised, getting us nearly half way toward our goal.
While the challenge asks that all former presidents of the Central Ohio SPJ Chapter contribute, any member or non-member of the chapter is encouraged to add what he or she can so we can reach our goal and surpass it.
Checks can be made out to: Central Ohio SPJ (put on the memo line: minority scholarship).
Please send donations to: David Richter, treasurer, Central Ohio SPJ, 1410 Stoneygate Lane, Columbus, OH 43221-1555.
