{"id":961,"date":"2013-05-03T08:09:36","date_gmt":"2013-05-03T13:09:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/centralohiospj.org\/?p=961"},"modified":"2013-05-03T08:10:36","modified_gmt":"2013-05-03T13:10:36","slug":"dispatch-reporters-to-receive-chapters-first-amendment-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/centralohiospj.org\/index.php\/dispatch-reporters-to-receive-chapters-first-amendment-award\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Dispatch&#8217; reporters to receive chapter&#8217;s First Amendment Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Bill Bush and Jennifer Smith Richards will be presented the First Amendment Award at the Central Ohio SPJ Pro Chapter\u2019s annual Founders Day event for their work on the \u201c<a title=\"Counting Kids Out\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/content\/topic\/special-reports\/2012\/counting-kids-out.html\">Counting Kids Out<\/a>\u201d series, an investigation that continues to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/content\/stories\/local\/2013\/05\/03\/states-seizes-records-at-20-city-high-schools-in-data-probe.html\">make headlines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The award is the fifth in six years for a <em>Dispatch <\/em>staffer, going back to 2008 when Smith Richards and Jill Riepenhoff won for their work on the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/content\/topic\/special-reports\/education\/abcs-of-betrayal.html\">ABCs of Betrayal<\/a>\u201d series.<\/p>\n<p>Join your colleagues at the event May 16 at the Fawcett Center to celebrate their achievement.<\/p>\n<p>Former <em>Dispatch <\/em>editor and freshman state representative Mike Curtin will be the keynote speaker.<\/p>\n<p>Also at the event, Tom Griesdorn, retiring WBNS-10TV president and general manager, and Bill Cohen, who\u2019s retiring after a 40-year career in public radio, will receive the chapter\u2019s Appreciation Award for their service to journalism in central Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are $30 for SPJ members, $35 for non-members and can be purchased online at <a href=\"http:\/\/centralohiofoundersday.eventbrite.com\/#\">centralohiofoundersday.eventbrite.com<\/a>.
