Committing Good Journalism in the Digital Age

Want ideas for how to create more powerful multimedia stories and better understand the rapidly changing digital media field? During a casual luncheon at noon on March 26, fellows in the Kiplinger Program in Public Affairs Journalism will give an overview and show examples of how people in the newsroom are using creative strategies and adding dimension to traditional print stories – through new collaborations, slideshows, radio-style sound stories, easy links to public documents, reader-posted stories and novel interactive click story maps.

All of the fellows this year are award-winning journalists who hail from a wide variety of newsrooms, ranging from washingtonpost.com and The Los Angeles Times to The Buffalo News, the Daily Press in Newport News, and Ohio Catalyst, an urban school policy magazine based in Cleveland.

During their time in the program, they have been studying the impact of digital media on public policy, as well as taking classes in podcasting, Web design, video field production and other technologies. They also are producing in-depth public affairs stories in multiple platforms to take back to their newsrooms — and will share insights into how to produce compelling multimedia stories.
