Thurber House event with Lee Woodruff

The SPJ Central Ohio Pro Chapter is pleased to be a sponsor for the Thurber House evening with journalist and author Lee Woodruff on Monday, Feb. 25.

Join us at 7:30 p.m. at the Columbus School for Girls, 56 South Columbia Ave., Columbus for a reading and discussion of In an Instant: A Family’s Journey of Love and Healing.

Woodruff co-authored this New York Times acclaimed book with her husband Bob Woodruff, an ABC News anchor and correspondent. It recounts Woodruff’s 2006 shrapnel injury to the head while anchoring a broadcast from Iraq, his recovery process and the family’s ordeal.

The New York Times review said: “Both Woodruffs (shoot) from the hip, writing with candor about their ordeal and describing it with an intimacy that couldn’t be captured on camera. … Their frankness heightens the book’s impact.”

Woodruff is a freelance writer, public relations executive and also contributing editor to ABC’s Good Morning America. She and Bob have established the Bob Woodruff Family Fund for Traumatic Brain Injury to raise money to assist families of the military with care needs following traumatic brain injury. This fund was created to raise the awareness about the hidden injuries of war, with a special emphasis on assisting those injured in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Following the reading, Woodruff will take questions and chat with the audience about her experience and her writing. She will sign books and they also will be available to purchase at the event. Tickets are $12 for SPJ members (otherwise they are $18 in advance, $20 at the door, with discounts for students and seniors).
