Cadwallader Wins!

Using a grass-roots campaign of meeting delegates face-to-face, a poker-chip size promotional sticker, and a flyer touting his past experience, Bruce Cadwallader of The Columbus Dispatch won the election for national secretary-treasurer at the SPJ National Convention in Las Vegas.

Cadwallader is a past president of the chapter, past regional director and has been serving as chairman of the SPJ National Defense Fund.

The secretary-treasurer is chairman of the finance committee for SPJ’s $1.7 million budget, serves on the 5-member executive committee, and presides as the official recorder for board meetings. It is the first step on the ladder to becoming national president of the society’s 10,000-member organization.

David Carlson, Cox/Palm Beach Post professor of new media journalism at the University of Florida, was installed as president during the group’s annual convention.

Christine Tatum, a business writer for The Denver Post, was elected as president-elect. She will be installed as president at SPJ’s 2006 convention in Chicago.
